Tan
House is the family home of Peter Chamberlain and Christie Arno. We
arrived in 1979, Christie to establish a residential Medieval Field
Study Centre, and Peter to make his sculptural furniture in the Trap
House. An informal hospitality welcomes guests to our interesting 17th
Century "post-restoration" house, (of Charles II that is!) Built by a
prosperous tanner, it was described as a "premium tannery in the
kingdom" |
but by the 19th Century it had become a farm house. Around the house,
14 acres includes new woodland, meadow, ponds and Valley Brook. Plenty
of wild life, even a party of "wild" boar last year, while Christie
tussles with her amateur and idiosyncratic garden. B&B
accommodation has been available since 1990, and many of our visitors
return often! |
