Tan House

SITUATION & INTERESTS

The village of Newland is picturesque, a small hillside hamlet, with historic buildings. The church is locally known as the “Cathedral of the Forest”. Tan House is open to bookings all year. Every season has attraction, spring acres of bluebells in the Forest of Dean, and for the botanist some of the finest wild flower meadows with orchids. Summer activities can include the “Forest Open Studios Art Trail” in July, when artists exhibit

work from their homes, and several villages hold “Open Garden” weekends, and for gardeners as well, the unique canal garden at Westbury Court. Such events take you to hidden parts of the landscape, and encourage exploration of the small villages of the Forest. The autumn colours are stunning while for others, the winter landscape of bare ancient oaks makes the most impressive landscape of all.

From Tan House – Offa’s Dyke, the Wye Valley, Clearwell castle and Clearwell Caves, one mile, Mary-Rose Young Pottery, two miles, Monmouth, four miles, Ross on Wye, Wobage Craft Centre, seven miles. Within twenty minutes drive are Tintern Abbey, the Forest Sculptural Trail, Goodrich Castle, the Severn Bore and many other points of interest and delight.
